What is a Magnetic Rod?

A magnetic rod is a powerful tool designed to keep your production line safe and your products pure. You’ll find it in industries like plastics, chemicals, food, and pharmaceuticals, where iron contamination can cause costly damage or compromise quality. It typically consists of a stainless steel housing with a strong permanent magnet inside, NdFeB, SmCo, or ferrite. When you install a magnetic rod in your equipment, whether in powders, granules, or liquids, it captures tiny iron particles before they reach critical machinery, protecting your investment and ensuring cleaner, safer products.

Working Principle of Magnetic Rods

How Do magnetic filter rod Work?

When your raw material (powder, granules, liquid, or slurry) flows past the magnetic rod, the strong magnetic field from the rod attracts any ferrous (iron‑based) contaminants. The magnetic core, often made of rare‑earth magnets, generates a high‑intensity field, while the stainless-steel sleeve protects the magnets and concentrates the magnetic field toward the outside.

As material flows around the rod, iron particles are pulled out of the stream and cling to the rod’s surface, leaving non‑magnetic material to continue onward.

Process of magnetic rod filters

Step 1: Material Selection
You start by selecting high-quality magnets like NdFeB, SmCo, or Ferrite, and stainless steel tubes (SUS304, SUS316, or 316L). This ensures your rod will have strong magnetic performance, durability, and corrosion resistance.

Step 2: Tube Preparation
The steel tubes are cut, polished, and cleaned to achieve a smooth, mirror-like surface. This makes the rod safe and easy to clean for food, pharma, or chemical applications.

Step 3: Magnet Insertion
Permanent magnets are carefully inserted into the tube, ensuring uniform magnetic coverage so you can capture even the smallest iron particles.

Step 4: Sealing & Welding
The ends are welded and sealed, making the rod leak-proof, robust, and long-lasting.

Step 5: Surface Finishing & Inspection
Your rod undergoes polishing, anti-corrosion treatment, and rigorous inspection of magnetic strength, dimensions, and integrity to guarantee consistent quality.

Step 6: Packaging
Each magnetic rod is securely packed using protective sleeves, cartons, or crates, preventing damage during transport. You’ll receive the rods ready for safe international shipping.

Cleaning Magnetic Rods

Magnetic Filter Bars Maintenance and Safety Tips

Regular Cleaning
To keep your magnetic rods performing at their best, you should clean them regularly. Simply wipe off captured iron particles and debris to maintain strong magnetic efficiency and prevent contamination in your products.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Make sure your magnetic rod isn’t exposed to temperatures beyond its rated limits. Excessive heat can weaken the magnet, so always check specifications before using it in high-temperature processes.

Inspect for Damage

Periodically examine the rod for scratches, corrosion, or cracks in the housing. Catching damage early helps you avoid reduced magnetic performance or potential contamination issues.

Proper Handling and Storage

Always handle rods carefully and store them in a dry, safe place. This prevents accidental demagnetisation, physical damage, or contamination when not in use.

Document Maintenance

Keep a simple record of cleaning, inspection, and usage. This helps ensure compliance with hygiene standards and extends the life of your magnetic rods.
