Tatung Special Steel Co., Ltd. has announced that the company has developed the world's highest level of high magnetic permeability soft magnetic material, which can cope with the increased sensitivity of sensors that are required along with the development of automotive electric vehicles and automatic driving. Taking this as an opportunity, the company will expand its product portfolio of high magnetic permeability soft magnetic materials and promote various sensors used in automobiles.
There are two types of high-magnetic permeability soft magnetic materials developed by Datong Special Steel Co., Ltd., one of which is MENPC2-S, which has the highest magnetic permeability to 300,000 in the world. Magnetic permeability is a parameter showing the difficulty of magnetization of a material. By using a material with a high magnetic permeability, the sensitivity of the sensor is improved. Compared with the material commonly used in sensors—electrical steel (magnetic permeability 5000), the magnetic permeability of MENPC2-S is increased several times. Its main purpose is high-sensitivity current sensor. The second is MENPB-S with a magnetic flux density of MENPC2-S (reaching 1.5T) and a magnetic permeability increased to 140,000. Magnetic flux density represents the flux per unit area of the material, and materials with high magnetic flux densities can be subjected to high-current processing. Therefore, MENPB-S is mainly used to deal with high-sensitivity demand of high-current sensors for battery of electric vehicles. For the purpose of measuring the residual amount of batteries, the sensitivity of the sensor and the accuracy of residual measurement are improved by using MENPB-S, and the battery is expanded. Capacity range provides basis for increasing mileage.
The main components of both MENPC2-S and MENPB-S are nickel, while high magnetic permeability is achieved through the balance of other trace additive elements and the optimization of the production process. MENPC2-S offers 20% higher magnetic permeability than the company's traditional products. MENPB-S offers 75% more magnetic permeability than the company's conventional products.
Nickel alloys with high magnetic permeability and high magnetic flux density are different from laminated electrical steel sheets. Generally, they do not need to be laminated. Therefore, the size of the sensor can be reduced. For automatic driving that senses the interior and exterior environments of automobiles through various sensors and uses their information for control, there is a need for materials that can make sensors highly sensitive and miniaturized.
The newly developed high magnetic permeability soft magnetic material can produce steel strips with a thickness range of 0.1-1.5 mm.
